BE Textile Engineering

About BE Textile Engineering

Textile Engineering is a branch of engineering which deals with the principles of scientific techniques used for manufacturing, designing and development which includes complex processes of spinning, weaving, bleaching, dyeing, blending, and printing to finishing of several high quality fabrics. Textile are not restricted to clothes but other fabrics like carpets, upholstery and laces. This course also deals with topics like textile harvesting, energy conservation, waste and pollution control etc. Moreover, industrial uses of textile includes their incorporation firefighting suits, shuttle space suit, in carbon fiber composite rocket exhausts, and even in nose cones for NASA.Keeping in mind the diversity of our country, different forms of clothing has made this industry one of the booming industries in India. This industry mainly works in areas of Agro textiles – which protect the farmers and Agricultural Engineers from the adverse effects of soil and pollution; Geo-textiles – which protect the people during construction work. This field of engineering has influences of other branches of engineering like chemical, instrumentation, and computer, structural, electronic and mechanical engineering.

Eligibility

  • For B.E/B.Tech in Textile Engineering, a candidate is required to pass 10+2 with physics, chemistry and maths as compulsory subjects with 45% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Maths.

Scope:
Textile Industry has a wide range of career options. A large number of government-sponsored and private silk, handloom, jute, khadi, and craft development organizations need textile technology experts. Typical employers include companies that produce clothing, soft furnishings and other textile-based products, big fashion retailers, design studios and consultancies.Textile engineers can also find jobs in cotton yarn manufacturing corporations, and research laboratories for testing and quality control. Manufacturing units of technical textiles like agro textiles and medical textiles is another area of employment where textile engineers are in great demand. Another option is self employment, i.e. to start own textile manufacturing unit. Teaching and research is another option for textile degree holders. They can work as lectures in universities/ institutes teaching this subject. They can develop new fiber or even new techniques for treatment of fibers. Textile engineering ensures a bright career for the students, as there is no denying the fact that neither the demand nor the supply of the textiles is ever going to be defoliated, especially in a country like India.

A student who has completed a B.Tech in Textile Engineering degree can get either of these designations-

  • Quality control supervisor
  • Process engineer Researchers
  • Medical textiles engineer
  • Operations trainee Technologists
  • Sales manager
