BE Civil Engineering

About BE Civil Engineering

The study of planning, designing and implementation and maintenance of structural activities is called civil engineering. Civil Engineering is considered the most traditional and conventional branch of studies. This branch is also considered as the mother of all engineering. The spectrum of Civil Engineering field is broad and is diversified. Geo technical Engineering; Hydraulic Engineering; Structural Engineering; Transportation Engineering; Water Resource engineering; Environmental Engineering; Earthquake Engineering; Urban Planning are significant areas of study in this field. Various constructions of public and private works such as bridges, dams, water sewages, buildings, etc. are all planned, analysed, designed as well as administered and supervised by the civil engineers.

Eligibilty:
Civil engineering can be studied as a degree course and an engineering course after class XII. As to do graduation in this branch, students need to pass 10+2 with subjects such as physics, maths, biology and chemistry with 45% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. They can go for M.Tech or post graduation programs or can choose to get into jobs after their graduation.

Career scope after B.Tech in Civil Engineering
The present scenario of B.Tech Engineers seems to be very promising. A plethora of job opportunities awaits the new generation. With the increase in demand of the infrastructural requirements in private and government sectors, there is huge demand for the civil engineers. Moreover, civil engineers are also recruited outside the country as well by international infrastructural companies. Apart from being into field work, there are options that a student can get into the profession of teaching with any post graduate specialisaion. Many research and development projects in this field can be worked with civil engineers only.

Core Companies for Civil Engineers:
Listed below are some core companies who come for recruitment in engineering colleges.

  • Larsen & Toubro Ltd.,
  • Railways, Engineers India Ltd.,
  • DRDO,
  • ISRO,
  • SERC and
  • Jaypee Group are to name few companies and organizations that offer jobs to civil engineering students.

After completing B.Tech in Civil Engineering, graduates can opt for higher studies which can be M. Tech. Different specializations in M.Tech are available in this branch to choose from. The various specializations in M.Tech Civil Engineering are

  • M.Tech. in Civil Engineering – Building Technology and Construction Management
  • M.Tech. in Civil Engineering – Environmental Engineering
  • M.Tech. in Civil Engineering – Structural Engineering
  • M.Tech. in Civil Engineering – Transportation Engineering
  • M.Tech. in Civil Engineering- Highway Technology

To join M.Tech in this branch of study the candidates have to qualify the GATE exams for their admission in various colleges.
A student after completing graduation in Civil Engineering also has the choice to opt for post graduate management course like MBA and also can pursue their course in doctorate level.
