B.Sc. MLT (Medical Laboratory Technology)

About B.Sc. MLT (Medical Laboratory Technology)

Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) also known as Clinical Laboratory Science is an advanced discipline of science which deals with the analysis, cure and prevention of diseases through various laboratory tests. Medical Laboratory Technicians help to support the work of medical technologists, to help identify abnormalities in the samples such as malignancies, bacteria, parasites, or genetic abnormalities. Medical laboratory technicians also may assist in blood-typing, or other routine blood tests. The professionals use sophisticated biomedical instruments, microscopes and computers to analyze blood and body fluids. The technicians work in a medical laboratory, often under the guidance or supervision of a medical technologist (MT).

As a B.Sc. MLT (Medical Laboratory Technology) student, you will receive in-depth curriculum and lab-specific courses that allow to utilize fully-equipped, professional-grade laboratories so you gain the knowledge and skills needed to accurately perform the diagnostic testing. Medical lab technicians (MLTs) play a key role in helping physicians diagnose patient illnesses. Medical laboratory technicians do similar work but at a less complex level as medical technologists, as educational requirements for medical laboratory technicians are less than the requirements for medical technologists.

Like other medical lab careers, demand for medical lab technicians is huge. Additionally, medical laboratory technician jobs offer an opportunity to have a significant impact on patient care, without actually interacting with patients. Medical Laboratory Technicians, Hospitals and other health care facilities throughout the country are facing critical shortages of qualified clinical laboratory personnel and this profession will help an individual in changing their lives.
