Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S.)

Total Intake for BDS – 50 Seats

I. Eligibility and Admission
As per the RGHUS and DCI norms
II. Age Requirement

The Candidate shall have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age of 17 by 31st December of the year in which he/she seeks admission.

III. Length of the Course

Four academic years, and twelve months of compulsory paid rotating internship thus making it five years course.

IV. Attendance.
  • Every candidate shall have attendance of 75% in theory classes and 75% in practical/Clinical in each subject in each year.
  • In case of subject in which instructional programme extend through more than one academic year and hence there is no university examination in the subject. (i.e. non exam going subjects), the attendance requirement shall not be less than 70% in lectures and practical / clinical. However, at the time of appearing for the professional examination in the subject the candidate should satisfy the conditions (a) above
  • The failed candidate shall put a minimum of 75% attendance in failed subjects.

The candidate who comes from outside, must approach the Registrar, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore with following documents, for obtaining eligibility certificates for the B.D.S course

  • Photostat copies of marks of the qualifying examination
  • Date of Birth certificate as recorded in the school / College

  • Challan of Rs. 2000/- (BDS)
  • Challan of Rs. 3000/- (MDS)

ELIGIBILITY:

A candidate for admission to the MDS course (Master of Dental Surgery) must have a. recognized degree of BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) awarded by an Indian University in respect of recognized Dental College under Section 10(2) of the Dentists Act, 1948 or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Dental Council of India and should have obtained permanent registration with the State Dental Council. Candidates not possessing a recognized Dental qualification for the above purpose should secure the prior approval of his qualifications by the Dental Council of India before he can be admitted to the MDS Course of any University in India.

Candidates who possess PG Diploma recognized by the DCI with the duration of 2 years (proposed) in particular specialty is eligible for admission in MDS in the same specialty and the duration will be 2 years. The syllabus of two years programmed will be as per the concerned university guidelines.

Provided that in the case of a foreign national, the Dental Council of India may, on payment of the prescribed fee for registration, grant temporary registration for the duration of the postgraduate training restricted to the dental college/institution to which he is admitted for the time being exclusively for postgraduate studies;
Provided that further temporary registration to such foreign national shall be subject to the condition that such person is duly registered as dental practitioner in his own country from which he has obtained his basic dental qualification and that his degree is recognized by the corresponding dental council or concerned authority

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF ADMISSION

Students for MDS Course shall be admitted based on performance at the competitive examinations held by Central government/State government/Universities or Institutions.

ELIGIBLITY CERTIFICATE FROM RGUHS

No candidate shall be admitted to any postgraduate MDS course unless the candidate has obtained and produced eligibility certificate issued by University. The candidate has to make an application to the University with the following documents along with the prescribed fee:

  • BDS pass / degree certificate issued by the University.
  • Marks cards of all the university examinations passed (I to IV BDS year course).
  • Attempt Certificate issued by the Principal.
  • Certificate regarding the recognition of the Dental college by the Dental Council of India.
  • Completion of paid rotatory internship certificate from a recognized college.
  • Registration by any State Dental Council and
  • Proof of SC/ ST or Category I, as the case may be. Candidates should obtain the Eligibility Certificate before the last date for admission as notified by the University. A candidate who has been admitted to postgraduate course should register his / her name in the University within a month of admission after paying the registration fee.

Master of Science in Oral Biology (M.Sc.)

1. Eligibility

A candidate for admission to the Oral Biology course must have a recognized degree of BDS or MDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery/Master of Dental Surgery/MBBS, MSC in either Medical Microbiology, Genetics or Biotechnology awarded by an Indian University or an equivalent qualification recognized by the respective apex bodies.

Candidate for the masters program should secure the prior approval of his qualifications by the RGUHS before he can be admitted to the oral biology course.
In case of foreign nationals approval from apex bodies has to be availed.

2. Criteria for selection for admission.

Students for the Master of Science in Oral Biology Course shall be admitted based on the above mentioned eligibility criteria and the results of the interview conducted by the selection committee at the MMNGH Institute of Dental Sciences and research center.
3. Eligibility Certificate from RGUHS
No Candidate shall be admitted to the master of Oral Biology course unless the candidate has obtained and produced eligibility certificate issued by University. The candidate has to make an application to the University with the following documents along with the prescribed fee.1. Degree certificate issued by the University.
2. Marks cards of all the university examinations passed.
3. Attempt certificate issued by the principal
4. Completion of paid rotatory internship certificate from a recognized college as applicable.
5. Registration by any State Dental Council/Medical council as applicable
6. Candidates should obtain the Eligibility certificate before the last date of admission as notifies by the University. A candidate who has been admitted to masters program should register his/her name in the University within a month of admission after paying the registration fee.
4. Duration of the Course.
The course shall be of two year duration. The masters program will commence from 16th July and 1st January every year. To begin with a maximum of four eligible candidates will be selected every term. With expansion in infrastructure at the institute this  number ma be increased in future. The candidates are selected after they meet the eligibility criteria as described in Section 1 and after attending the interview. The decision of the interview board to select the eligible candidates shall remain final. The university nominee will be on the interview board for the selection. If MDS course is running in the department then only one candidate per guide can be nominated in that department.All the candidates aspirant of the graduate program are required to pursue the recommended course for at lease two years as full time candidate in this institution affiliated to and approved for Post graduate studies by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka and recognized by the Dental Council India.
5. Method of Training
The training will include both didactic and practical laboratory training. The training of student for the program shall be full time with graded responsibilities in the didactic and research with the selected topic under the guidance of mentor. The participation of the students in all facets of educational process is essential. Every candidate should take part in seminars, group discussion, journal reviews. Training should include involvement in laboratory and experimental work, and research studies.
6. Attendance, Progress and Conduct

A candidate pursuing masters program should work in the concerned department of the institution for the full period as a full time student. No candidate is permitted to join any other course of study for the full period as a full time student. No candidate is permitted to join any other course of study or appear for any examination conducted by this university or any other university in India or abroad during the period of registration.

Each six months shall be taken as a unit for the purpose of calculating attendance.

Every candidate shall attend symposia, seminars, conferences, journal review meetings, CPC, case presentation, clinics and lectures during each term as prescribed by the department and not be absent from work without reasons.

Every candidate shall have not less than 80 percent of attendance in each term of the course. However, candidate should not be absent continuously as the course as a full time on.

7. Monitoring Progress of Studies
Work Diary / Log Book:  Every candidate shall maintain a work diary and record of his / her participation in the training program conducted by the department such as journal reviews, seminars, etc. The work diary shall be scrutinized and certified by the Head of the Department and head of the institution, and presented in the university practical/laboratory examination.

Periodic tests:
The concerned faculties may conduct periodical tests. The Theory exam will be held after end of the first year. The theory exams include written papers in all the different course modules. Passing in all the modules are a must for the further progress in the degree which primarily includes lab training and research under the candidates guide.

Records:
Records and marks obtained in tests/exams will be maintained by the Head of the Department and will be made available to the University when called for.

Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

 The Maratha Mandal’s Institute Of Dental Sciences, Belgaum has been recognized as a Research Centre to carry out research work leading to Ph.D. degree of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore in the Department of ‘Oral Pathology & Microbiology’ with effect from 24/10/2008.‘Dr.Kishore G.Bhat’ is recognized as a Ph.D Guide by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences,Bangalore for all Ph.D work.The Department of ‘Molecular Biology & Immunology’ of Maratha Mandal’s Nathajirao G.Halgekar Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Centre, Belgaum has been recognized as a ‘Referral Centre for Oral Microbiology’ with effect from 08/01/2010.

Basic Implant Proficiency Course

 The course equips delegates with knowledge and expertise in the science and practice of implantology. The programme covers theoretical science, through restorative treatment-planning to clinical practice in the direct management of patients requiring fixed and removable implant-retained prostheses.
Course Summary: Patients are provided for the live surgery and restorative training. Delegates will place and restore implants on a one-to-one basis.

The auditorium of Maratha Mandal’s Nathajirao G. Halgekar Institute of Dental Sciences has been designed with sitting capacity of over 250 persons at a time, with latest inbuilt sound and lighting systems.
LIBRARY: THE HUB OF KNOWLEDGE & LEARNING”

Good as it is to inherit a Library, it is even better to collect one. Maratha Mandal’s Nathajirao G. Halgekar Institute of Dental Science & Research Centre, Belgaum established in 1992 has compiled a very wide range of books of authors of repute. We have about 2081 valuable reference as well as text books. Back issues of National and International Journals from the year 1993 – 2004 are scientifically classified and catalogued. Our Digital Library and Helinet facility provide access to online databases, offline databases,  E-journals, E-books, E-documents.

Our library is very well ventilated, spacious, and enjoys natural lighting. We have reading and reference sections with seating capacity as per the norms of Dental Council of India and Rajiv Gandhi university of Health Sciences.

STAFF QUARTERS & STUDENTS HOSTEL

The college provides comfortable and pleasant stay for its students and faculty. Architectural excellence can be felt at student hostels and staff quarters inside the college campus. Separate hostels are available for boys and girls. Medical supervisor is available at call to provide any medical aid required for the residents of the hostel.
