Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Medical College, Bangalore, has been established in the year 1981 by Anandaa Social and Education Trust. The emblem of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Medical College, Bangalore, is a symbolic expression of compassion and sacred service to be adopted for the practice of modern medicine. Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Medical College, Bangalore salutes Gautama The Buddha, ocean of compassion and Bharatha Rathna Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Father of the Indian Constitution, the pole star guiding the destinies of the downtrodden of the society who inspired us to take upon ourselves the onerous task of running this institution. In this lush green campus of 25 acres of land at Kadugondanahalli, the Trust runs a Medical College including Hospital, School of Nursing, College of Nursing, Paramedical Institute which has colleges of Physiotherapy, Medical Laboratory Technology and Radiography.

The Central Library has 16500 books which comprises of text and reference in all medical specialities . It has 2 separate blocks and B block works 24 hours through out the year. The library is enriched with digital facilities and computer systems. Students, Faculty, Research workers, and other staff extensively make use of the facilities.

Readers have access to audio-visual aids, Micro Film Reader, and internet facility. Electronic databases viz. MEDLINE , Proquest Medical Library are available. The Library is connected to HELINET consortium offered by RGUHS for full text online journal and E books data bases and computerized. Post graduates , graduates and researchers get the latest references through these apart from books, for their dissertation and research and publication work. Services include book bank, Photocopying, scanning for digitising purpose and laser printing too. Both Foreign and Indian medical journals are subscribed to meet the demands of learning and to keep abreast with recent literature .

Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Medical College, Bangalore : Hostel
The Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Medical College, Bangalore runs hostels for the men and women students separately within the campus at Kadugondanahalli. The hostel buildings with spacious rooms, lounges, recreation room having colour television sets in each of the hostels, with all other modern amenities, are built to ensure comfortable stay of the inmates, and a proper atmosphere for study. The women students’ hostel, with a view to ensure absolute safety of the inmates, is fenced properly and secured.

Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Medical College, Bangalore: Admission to Hostel

Students desirous of availing of the hostel facility must apply to the concerned hostel warden. Applications will be considered by the Principal, in consultation with the warden. The names of the selected applicants will be announced on the respective hostel notice boards before the reopening of the college. The principal has the right to grant or refuse admission to the hostel to any student at his own discretion without assigning any reason for his decision.

Hostel administration :

The administration of each hostel is vested in the respective warden. A separate hostel committee for mens’ and womens’ hostel are constituted for administrative purposes. Each committee is formed by the Principal, four senior professors, the wardens and two students representatives residing in the hostel. This committee meets at frequent intervals to review and lay down necessary guidelines to run the hostel efficiently, economically and in a disciplined way.

The Student representatives run the mess in the mens’ and womens’ hostel under the supervision and guidance of the warden.

Room allotment:

The allotment of rooms is solely at the discretion of the warden concerned. Boarders shall not change the rooms allotted, to them without the permission of the warden concerned.

Payment of hostel fees:

Every student selected for admission into the hostel will have to make a non-refundable deposit and the prescribed rent and other charges

Mess
Healthy and hygienic food for every student is provided at the mess.

Sports and Cultural Activities at Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Medical College, Bangalore

Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Medical College lays great emphasis on the all round development of the student. The college campus has a spacious sports ground and materials for several outdoor and indoor activities.

A committee, headed by the Principal and comprising of Physical Director , sports secretary and talented members of the staff, and student representatives, manage the sports activities.

It is a matter of pride that many of our students have come out with flying colours in National, State , Inter-university and Inter-medical sports competitions.

Students take a keen interest in literary and cultural activities. The College Day, Graduation Day, competitions on Karnataka Rajyothsava are some of the platform for literary and cultutral activities. A college magazine is brought out with articles mostly contributed by students and staff.

MBBS Programme at Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Medical College, Bangalore

Annual intake of students for the MBBS course is 100 and is recognised by Medical Council of India, New Delhi and affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka.

The duration of the course is 4 years of academic study and 1 year of compulsory internship . As per the new regulations of Medical Council of India (MCI) the MBBS course has been divided into 3 phases as per the details

  ADDITIONAL TRAINING : Candidates will note that the regulations of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences also prescribe the following: .

    • A language course in Kannada is conducted compulsorily for all new entrants.
    • Courses are conducted by the college on Human Resources, including Medical Ethics, Rural Orientation Programme, Indian Constitution, Basics of Computers and Behavioural Sciences. Attendance for these is compulsory.
  • Rules of the University require students to join the NCC or NSS.
